Citizens crash tackle allegedly knife burglar

The Fishermen's Wharf Market at Port Adelaide.

The 20-year-old man first tripped an alarm at the market just after 3am on Sunday morning.

A security guard found and challenged the man who was allegedly carrying a bag of stolen knives. The suspect then allegedly threatened the guard with one of the knives.

SA Police officers surrounded the building as the man tried to escape — but two members of the public tackled him to the ground.

They managed to detain the man until officers made the arrest.

The Woodville Park man was charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, theft, carrying an offensive weapon and aggravated assault.

He was bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on November 28.
