Watch All the Ab Fab and Doctor Who You Desire With the Just-Launched Streamer BritBox
Back in March, it was first reported that UK broadcasters BBC and ITV were looking to launch their streaming service BritBox in Australia, and the launch date has been confirmed — today, November 23.
BritBox is where Anglophiles will be able to watch an enormous catalogue of British comedy and drama TV on-demand. Here’s what we know about the launch.
What shows can I watch on BritBox?
BritBox is the home of BBC and ITV’s drama and comedy on demand. It promises classic and contemporary British shows and exclusive and premiere titles, across genres like drama, crime, mystery and comedy.
Every episode of Doctor Who, from 1963 to 2019, is available on the platform, as well as full collections of shows like Vera, Endeavour, Prime Suspect, Shakespeare & Hathaway, Father Brown, Victoria and Lewis. BritBox exclusives include A Confession and Appropriate Adult, as well as Murder on the Blackpool Express, Your Home Made Perfect and Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar available in Australia for the first time. The Mallorca Files will premiere in December.
BritBox will exclusively premiere the reboot of 1970s veterinary drama All Creatures Great and Small, starring Nicholas Ralph, Rachel Shenton and Callum Woodhouse, which aired in the UK earlier this year. The revival of 1980s satirical puppet sketch series Spitting Image also debuts on the platform, with new episodes dropping weekly express from the UK.
Other favourites available on the platform include Mr Bean, Blue Planet, Planet Earth, Kingdom, The Vicar of Dibley, the UK Office, Top Gear, Luther, Absolutely Fabulous, Midsomer Murders, Blackadder and more.
As reported by News.com.au in March, the launch does not impact existing content agreements for BBC and ITV shows, like Foxtel’s BBC First and Doctor Who airing on the ABC.
What are the special features of BritBox?
BritBox offers expert curation and playlists designed to help viewers find their favourites as well as discover new shows.
How do I watch BritBox?
Viewers can access BritBox on web, mobile, tablet and connected home devices, like Chromecast, Apple TV and Telstra TV.
How much does BritBox cost?
BritBox costs $8.99 a month for Australian consumers, with a 12-month subscription available for $89.99. A week-long free trial is available before signing up.
When does BritiBox launch in Australia?
The streaming service launched in Australia on Doctor Who Day, the anniversary of the first episode of the iconic sci-fi series back in 1963, November 23. Viewers can sign up at britbox.com.
BritBox first launched in the US and Canada in 2017 and in the UK in 2019.
