Stan Drops First Trailer for Their New Aussie True Crime Documentary, After the Night
Today Stan dropped the trailer for their new original true crime documentary series, After the Night.
Directed by The Spy Who Fell to Earth‘s Thomas Meadmore, the series focuses on notorious Perth serial killer Eric Edgar Cooke, who killed eight people between 1959 and 1963, and assaulted and attempted to murder many more.
Thomas returns to his childhood home of Perth and spends time with people who had been close to Eric and his victims — including his wife, Sarah Lavin, and two men wrongly convicted of his crimes, John Button and Daryl Beamish.
John Button was wrongfully convicted for the manslaughter of his girlfriend, Rosemary Anderson, in 1963, and his conviction was overturned in 2002. Beamish was convicted in 1961 of murdering Jillian Macpherson Brewer and was acquitted in 2005. Appeal judges concluded the murders were likely committed by Cooke.
After the Night is expected to chart all the twists and turns in the case against Cooke, from the wrongful convictions, to confessions from Cooke, which weren’t believed by police, to accusations of a police coverup, and the impact Cooke’s reign of violence had on the victims’ families.
Director Thomas Meadmore said of the documentary: “Growing up, mum’s tale of the man who randomly knocked on the neighbours’ door in the night and shot the person who answered terrified me. It’s been an incredible experience exploring his heinous crimes and the lasting impact they’ve had on the entire Perth community. This is a story that needed to be told and you won’t want to miss it.”
After the Night premieres on November 29.
