Zac Efron Is the Star of a Brand New Aussie Movie on Stan & We Hope He Doesn’t Put on an Accent
Zac Efron will star in a Stan original movie, which begins shooting in South Australia this month. It’s the first project he’s confirmed to have taken on since he moved to Australia earlier this year, after it was theorised that he might appear on The Masked Singer (obviously he did not).
Zac stars alongside Susie Porter (Cargo) and director and co-writer Anthony Hayes (Animal Kingdom) in the movie Gold, scheduled for release in cinemas and on Stan in 2021.
Gold is billed as a “taut thriller about greed and the lengths people will go to secure themselves a fortune”.
“When two drifters travelling through the outback stumble across the biggest gold nugget ever found, the dream of immense wealth and greed takes hold,” the synopsis reads. “They hatch a plan to protect and excavate their bounty with one man leaving to secure the necessary equipment. The other man remains and must endure the harsh desert climate, preying wolves and intruders, whilst battling the creeping doubt that he has been abandoned to his own fate.”
Director Anthony Hayes gushed about having Zac as his star. “To have Zac Efron as my main man on this film is an absolute gift and to see what he is creating already is like nothing we’ve seen from him before. I can’t wait to deliver this bold, visceral and cinematic film to audiences all around the world.”
Zac has been living in Byron Bay since at least March, where he met his current girlfriend, local waitress and model Vanessa Valladares. There’s even a rumour that Zac proposed to Vanessa after his surprise 33rd birthday party in Byron Bay in October!
We wonder if we’ll see pap shots of Zac and Vanessa on set in South Australia later this year . . . or if we’ll see the couple enjoying a cheeky getaway to the Barossa Valley . . . All we know is that we’ll be tuned into Gold in 2021!
